Seacoast Leadership Group is the leading professional services firm in Maine focusing on helping our clients achieve what matters most to their organization
The following is a list of some of the more typical questions we are asked by new clients before we begin working with them. If there are other questions that you would like to see answered in this area please feel free to contact us.
Our strategic development concept merges the three core processes of strategy execution...strategy, people and operations with results management. We refer to the progressive implementation of these processes as the Four Disciplines of Success.
When the four component structures are integrated, the results are continuous and self-generated improvement in productivity, efficiency...and success. All this is accomplished with highly effective ‘slight edge’ changes in current habits, behaviors and thinking.
Developing an effective strategy is about creating new initiatives to outperform competitors, gain new customers and develop an organization that is continually improving its core processes and developing its people. There is no magic bullet; it is hard work. Strategy, however, is nothing without the equal or greater attention required to implement it. Implementation describes the actions required to translate strategic intent into results. In short, it requires attention to current operational competence, goal setting, execution and accountability at all levels.
Bridging the gap from strategy to implementation will force the organization to look closely at how its people, processes and results management perform now and the demands of its new strategy. Analyzing this gap is often referred to as alignment, and the failure to act on this gap is the single most common reasons that implementation of strategy fails. At Seacoast Leadership Group, we refer to these four elements, strategy, people, process and results management (or accountability) as the Four Disciplines of Success. It could also be referred to as alignment.
We refer to ourselves and the work we do as that of a business coach. This is not done to the discredit of other practitioners but rather reflects our belief of the role that brings the most value to individuals and organizations. The individual or company must decide which style best fits there needs.
The responsibilities of a coach include:
Help the team stay focused on content by taking full responsibility for managing the process.
Act as a sounding board for information, thoughts and ideas.
Help team members avoid mistakes that are either conceptual or process-oriented.
Help the team cover everything that needs to be discussed and resolved.
Keep the team on schedule and the meetings moving.
Tone down overly dominant personalities and make sure that any disagreement gets expressed.
Ensure a realistic understanding of resource requirements and availability.
Challenge the team.
Deliver results that are specific, measurable and meaningful.
How does your relationship with your clients typically start?
We start by identifying any immediate dangers that must be avoided or opportunities that we should take advantage of. It is difficult, if not impossible to focus on long-term strategy if short-term dangers and opportunities prove a large distraction.
Our next action is typically to enroll 2 to 4 participants in a development program aimed at addressing dangers/opportunities. This provides quick results, increases the competence of the organization and proves the effectiveness of our process.
We then discuss with our clients the importance of developing and implementing a long-term strategy for success through our Four Disciplines process.
Describe the relationship you develop with your clients.
Seacoast Leadership does not offer a “quick-fix” for enhancing your organization’s performance. A complete Strategic Development process is a long-term relationship and will require significant investment over time. However, we would never suggest that you invest in the full process up-front. Why? If we are to truly be your partner, we must prove to you that our process will yield significant results over time. If at any time you feel you are not receiving the appropriate value for our services you may cancel future phases and terminate the relationship. However, we are confident that once you see the process in action you will be convinced of its value and we will have a mutually beneficial partnering relationship.
We are so convinced of the effectiveness of our development programs that Seacoast Leadership offers a money-back guarantee. It is required that each participant fulfills a commitment to attend all scheduled conferences, participate in coaching sessions and complete all required activities and assignments. At the mid-term point in the program, if the participant is not moving toward the results outlined in the Mutual Commitment Agreement, the investment will be returned in full upon receipt of all materials issued.
How do we insure confidentiality in the information we share?
Seacoast Leadership is strongly committed to unwavering ethical practices and professionalism. We will provide a standard confidentiality agreement or sign one that you have developed and is mutually agreeable before we engage in a partnering relationship.
