The strategy process is fundamentally about setting business direction: understanding the organization’s culture, structure and leadership style, its business environment, customer preferences, sources of business profitability and potential risks. This understanding leads to a Strategic Plan of Action — a roadmap for the future.
The operations process must define the detailed path to achieving strategy over the short term through targets, programs and follow-up.
